Sunday Morning Snuggles

Traditionally, most wedding ceremonies typically have the same run down, so through the years, I’ve heard it all.  Once in a while, the officiate will say something I haven’t heard before, or if I have, I’m finding new meaning in it. Those are my favorite. After 7 years of marriage, I’m still learning how to be a good wife and mother, something I believe is a never-ending learning experience, and I love hearing the words of wisdom being given to a couple just starting out and knowing I can still apply it to my marriage and my life.

During yesterday’s ceremony, the priest started talking about the couple’s home.  They were just starting out and had renovated their first home and the Father wanted to emphasize how important it was to remember that their newly beautiful house was also going to be their home where they would start out their life and make memories together.  It got me thinking about the little corner of the world that I call home.  It holds everything near and dear to me in 2,500 square feet. You can go to my “About” page and read that I have a husband that I adore, and 3 little humans that I think are perfect, along with some animals that I sometimes think are cute, but what does that really tell you about me other than the assumption that I’m just like every other 29-year-old from the Midwest? Not a whole lot.

It also got me thinking about how I would summarize my home in a single sentence and I realized it was this: Sunday mornings.  I love Sunday mornings. As a kid I would lie on my belly on the floor next to my brother as we manually turned the knob on our giant (by today’s standards) console television that sat on the floor, searching for “Looney Toons” on one of our 5 channels.  It’s one of my favorite memories. As an adult, it’s the one day of the week that I strive to make sure life is simple, even if it’s just for the morning, especially this time of year when I’m working a lot. Sunday mornings are when we wedding vendors suffer from something affectionately named the “wedding hangover” from kicking butt on Saturdays. Sunday mornings are a few short hours of bliss. My hope is that my kids remember Sunday mornings the same way I do.

I’m starting a new series on the blog called “Sunday Morning Snuggles”.  It might be about the husband, it might be about the kids, maybe it will be about what I’m reading or something to do with our never ending reno project we call our house…but it is my way of showing you a little more about the girl behind the lens, the girl you trust with your memories on your wedding day.

This morning, my current mood meant searching through my collection of records to find something to listen to while I made breakfast.  While I couldn’t make up my mind on what to play, as my collection is somewhat diverse, my 5-year-old very easily chose Frank Sinatra.  I sure love that kid…he’s always surprising me.  Frank’s voice is serenading us as I type this and it’s once again a perfect Sunday morning. XO
